Control cables

Control cables carry load and control position over long distances and must operate smoothly and easily through many cycles over a long period of time. The flexible nature of the control cable is an advantage, but it creates a lot of friction between the inner and outer sheath. A suitable lubricant is essential to keeping friction to a minimum and should get between these parts quickly. The almost universal lubrication solution is silicone.

Silicone oils and greases are characterized by a wide temperature range and good surface wetting properties. Although control cable greases are not exclusively silicone-based, you can often find another type of synthetic grease for this application.
