Description of silicone fluids used for polishing

Viscosities commonly used in the formulation of polishes range from 100 to 30,000 cSt. To obtain optimal results in terms of ease of application and depth of gloss, it is recommended to use a mixture of low viscosity fluid and high viscosity fluid (e.g. 3 parts XIAMETER™ PMX-200 Silicone Fluid 100 cSt and 1 part XIAMETER™ PMX-200 Silicone Fluid 12,500 cSt).

Low viscosity silicone fluid acts as a lubricant, making the polish easier to apply and wipe off, while high viscosity silicone fluid provides greater depth of gloss. Because these polymers are inherently hydrophobic, they cause water droplets to bead on the surface being treated rather than penetrate the polish.

How to use PMX-200 silicone fluid

XIAMETER PMX-200 50-1000 cSt silicone fluid is highly soluble in organic solvents such as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and halocarbon propellants used in aerosols. The fluid is easily emulsified in water using standard emulsifiers and normal emulsification techniques.

XIAMETER PMX-200 Silicone Fluid, 50-1000 cSt is insoluble in water and many organic products. Addition amounts as small as 0.1% may be sufficient when XIAMETER PMX-200 Silicone Fluid, 50-1000 cSt is to be used as a surfactant or for soaping creams and lotions. However, for applications such as hand creams and lotions, 1-10% is needed to form a more uniform film and effective barrier.

Shelf life and storage

Store the product at temperatures up to 60°C (140°F) in original, unopened containers.
