High adhesion grease resistant to dust
In industry and in many specialist applications, there is an increasing demand for lubricants that will not only effectively reduce friction and mechanical wear, but also provide protection against the ingress of contaminants such as dust, dirt or sand.
The ideal solution in such cases is a dust-resistant grease containing a synthetic PAO (polyalphaolefin) base oil, a lithium thickener and solid lubricants such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene).
Thermal stability
PAO grease retains its properties over a wide temperature range.
These types of greases are also very effective over a wide temperature range, operating reliably even at extremely low temperatures down to -60 °C.
Oxidation resistance
Slows down the aging of the grease and extends its service life.
PAO synthetic grease, i.e. polyalphaolefin-based grease, is a product characterized by excellent lubrication properties as well as exceptional thermal stability and oxidation resistance.
Better fluidity at low temperatures
It enables effective lubrication even at very low temperatures, e.g. in cold rooms.
Thanks to their molecular structure, which is more homogeneous than that of mineral oils, PAO greases exhibit lower viscosity, which allows for better lubrication at low temperatures while maintaining viscosity stability at higher temperatures.
These properties make PAO synthetic greases an ideal choice for operation under extreme conditions, such as low temperatures or high loads.
Resistance to moisture and contamination
PAO lubricants are usually also resistant to water, which is beneficial in environments exposed to moisture or various types of contamination.
A thickener is a substance that acts as a structure in grease that provides the appropriate consistency, allowing adhesion to lubricated surfaces. Soap thickeners, and lithium soaps in particular, are among the most commonly used ingredients in industrial greases. Lithium soap, made from fatty acid and lithium hydroxide, provides the appropriate stability and high resistance to high temperatures, which translates into increased grease adhesion and its ability to maintain consistency even in the face of vibrations or mechanical load. The main advantages attributed to lithium thickener are: high dropping point, good water resistance, which increases protection against corrosion, and high adhesion, which minimizes the risk of grease migration under load.
The addition of solid lubricants including PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), also known as Teflon, is a solution that allows for significant improvement of lubrication properties, especially in applications requiring resistance to dust and dirt.
PTFE is a substance with a low coefficient of friction, which additionally reduces resistance to mechanical movements and enables the formation of a thin protective layer that reduces the adhesion of dust particles to lubricated surfaces.
For a lubricant to be effective in environments where there is the presence of dust, dirt or other contaminants, its formula must meet a number of requirements.
Its adhesion is key – it must adhere to the surface and not migrate easily to minimise the risk of contaminants entering the lubrication points.
PAO synthetic greases with the addition of lithium thickener and PTFE are the ideal choice as they create a dust-resistant layer while allowing smooth operation at low temperatures.
The use of PTFE as a solid lubricant further increases the durability and strength of the grease.
One of the key requirements when selecting a grease for industrial applications is the ability to operate at extremely low temperatures. Traditional mineral greases can tend to set and lose their lubricating properties at temperatures below -20 °C.
Many synthetic greases combined with a lithium thickener maintain optimal fluidity and adhesion at temperatures as low as -60 °C.
In such conditions, the lubricant remains effective and protects against friction, minimizing wear of mechanical components.
Our company offers many products that are resistant to dust and have high adhesion, but the grease that meets all the features and advantages listed above is MOLYKOTE® EM-60L grease.
